Winnipeg Art Gallery
The Winnipeg Art Gallery, or WAG for short, is Canada's first civic art gallery housed within an iconic modernist building in downtown Winnipeg. WAG features over 27,000 works inside as well as the world's largest collection of Inuit Art. The collection is so large, in fact, that in 2020 a new Inuit Art Centre is opening onsite.
WAG was founded in 1912 and has since then grown into one of the country's leading visual art museums with a renowned international reputation. Throughout the art gallery, you will be able to explore European paintings, contemporary artwork, and Inuit sculptures. The main collections include the following:
- Canadian Art
- Indigenous Art
- Contemporary Art
- Decorative Art
- American and European Art
- Photography and Video
- Prints and Drawings
Explore these various works with a group tour, youth tour, or other specialty tours like the Weekend Drop-In Tour, Art for Lunch Tour, or Friday Night Tour. There are onsite programs and classes regularly, such as book talks, film screenings, and pottery classes. WAG actually features one of the oldest gallery-run art-making programs within the WAG Studio.
If you work up an appetite while here head to the onsite cafe for a quick bite or pick me up! There is also an onsite gift shop to explore before you go.
