Weston

Before you leave the Kansas City area you have to make a pit stop in Weston, a small community about 45 minutes away from KC. Voted Best Small Town in Missouri by AAA Midwest Travel Magazine and Favorite Day Trip by Visit KC’s Visitor’s Choice Awards, this is an absolute must-stop for your group. Within the confines of this stunning little city you will find various shops, restaurants, breweries, museums, exhibits, and attractions, with plenty of activities to keep your group busy!

First and foremost, however, Weston is a well-known historic district, a pre-Civil War town that many consider being a ‘slice of American heritage’ in of itself. Blast from the past Antebellum homes, historic markers and sites, and shops dating back to the 1830s will all greet you, as well as the oldest brewery west of the Hudson River in New York. The Weston History Museum will teach you all about these various sites, as well about the history of the city as a whole, which was a significant mid-19th-century Missouri River Port community. This was actually the second largest port on the Missouri River, holding an astounding 265 steamers a year in the 1850s.

Outside of the incredible history, you will still find plenty of attractions to keep you busy, the area holding 4 museums, several orchards and educational farms, the Lewis and Clark State Park, Snow Creek Skiing Center, and the local community theater. Eat at any of the over 14 restaurants lining the colorful streets, with everything from Missouri-classic comfort food to 4-star dining worth every penny. A couple favorites always tend to be Avalon and Bowman, so if there isn’t a long wait we’d suggest trying either one (though there really aren’t any bad choices as far as eateries go in Weston).
