Union Pacific Railroad Museum
Located in Council Bluffs, Iowa, just 5 minutes from Omaha across the Missouri River, you will find the Union Pacific Railroad Museum. This history museum features unique interactive exhibits covering the Union Pacific Railroad, one of the most influential transportation systems of its time.
This museum is free and opens each Thursday through Saturday, from 10 am to 4 pm. The building itself is a gorgeous Beaux-Arts style structure, originally the free Carnegie Library here in town. It first opened in 2003, on the 134th anniversary of the Union Pacific Railroad.
Inside you will find permanent exhibits such as American Travels by Rail, The Lincoln Collection, and Building America, as well as various traveling exhibits. Take a guided tour of the museum, lasting about an hour in totality, or sign up for a student or adult learning program. Student programs are tailored for ages pre-k through high school and feature courses such as the Railway Time Travelers, Engineering Railroad, Telegraphs Trains and Trouble, The Legacy of the Transcontinental Railroad, and much more!
