Royal Canadian Mint
Welcome to the Winnipeg location of the Royal Canadian Mint, the high-tech, high-volume manufacturing facility producing Canadian circulation coins. Every single Canadian circulation coin is produced here, which equals out to billions each year!
This location was established in 1976, though the Royal Canadian Mint, in general, was first established in 1908. The original location is in Ottawa, the mint created after an era of 'burgeoning gold production in the Yukon and British Columbia'. The Ottawa location is the headquarters today, and also where the master tooling is done and medals are made.
Here in Winnipeg during a visit to the mint, you can take a guided tour and 'discover the wonders of high-speed, high-volume coin production'. Your tour will involve a walkthrough of the newly-renovated tour area which features interactive coin displays that help you discover how the mint was made. You will also discover how over 55 billion coins have been made for over 75 countries worldwide, seeing the process of the massive strips of mental getting pressed into the 50-ton machine to make over 1,000 coins per second.
Be sure to stop by the Boutique before you go, the onsite shop selling coins, gifts, and more!
