Reptile Gardens
See. Learn. Laugh.
That's the motto of Reptile Gardens, the fun and educational place to take your group on your way to Mt. Rushmore (6 miles south of Rapid City). This Black Hills hidden gem was first created in 1937, a true ‘exotic wonderland and garden oasis’ all in one. Spend your time here exploring all the beautiful blooms, various vegetation, and luscious lawns as you trek around the property.
This spot was first opened by daredevil Earl Brockelsby, a brave man who had a passion for reptile and amphibian education and conservation. You will be able to get up close and personal with some of his favorites, and most native, species of reptiles while here, such as the South Dakota native salamanders, skinks, frogs, crocodiles, lizards, and giant tortoises. You can also see Cheyenne the Bald Eagle, the baby Gator Fluffy, or any of the many onsite snakes of all sorts.
After getting your fill of reptile fun head inside to the cafe and gift store, indoor skydome, or sit in on any of the many regularly scheduled live shows.
