Welcome to the Penn Museum, the well-known University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology that houses over 1 million different objects spanning 10,000 years of human history which come together to showcase the history of the human story, located directly on the University of Pennsylvania campus. The entire collection held here gives your group insight into 'who we are and where we came from' through various collections, exhibits, and artifacts from all over the world.
During your visit, your group will see signature galleries that include objects from the Middle East & Mesopotamia, Egypt, Africa, Mexico & Central America, Rome, Greece, China, and many more! Each gallery holds famous pieces of art and artifacts that show the diverse accomplishments throughout history who lived in these areas. Everything from ancient writing tablets, a Mesopotamian Queen’s jewelry, to stone tools household objects and fine art are displayed throughout, all objects found on various anthropological expeditions that Penn has conducted around the world.
Aside from the excellent educational artifacts inside, your group will also be able to admire the architecture of the building itself, one of the most famous features being the Chinese Rotunda. This is the largest unsupported masonry floor-dome in the world and is surrounded by gorgeous public gardens, sculptures by Alexander Stirling Calder, and the Warden Garden which includes cherry blossom trees and a koi pond.
