Natural History Museum

In beautiful Balboa Park, among the Spanish colonial buildings, winding nature paths, and iconic details you'll find San Diego's own Natural History Museum, an educational journey to find the history of the world. Founded in 1874, San Diego's academic quest to find historical truth leads you through the nature of the world from the time of the dinosaurs to the future of the human race.

The Nat, as the museum is lovingly nicknamed, supports a number of topics from around the globe, supporting their mission of education and global consciousness. "Rediscover a Lost Civilization" with the temporary exhibit on the Mayans, travel the length of California from Baja to the north, or even learn about the inner workings and intricacies of insects. Topics range from human civilizations of past and present to animals, ecology, fossils, sustainability, and more. Science and history collide in this stunningly beautiful, wonderfully curated collection of educational fascinations.

Walkthrough the gorgeous exhibits on a self-guided tour or take part in one of the museum's scheduled programs. After your visit, stop by the Dino Cafe for a coffee or sandwich, located in the museum's Atrium.
