Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium
Equipped with three viewable working labs, two fully-operating touch tanks, and one very impressive 135,000-gallon shark habitat, Mote Marine Lab and Aquarium is your all-in-one marine life education and observation center. With a treat for every aquatic adventure lover in your group, Mote Aquarium began with a goal of studying and preserving the life of local sharks but has since evolved into a much larger research center, focusing on worldwide problems such as human cancer by pairing it with marine life studies.
This world-class aquarium and research center allows you to experience the dynamics of the environment and life rituals of manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, and coral reefs. With the biggest goal of the center being that of conservation and restoration, fill up on facts about how to properly care for local marine life and what safe maritime practices to take home with you.
Be sure to say hello to some of their biggest success stories such as Buffett the manatee or Shelley the sea turtle during your tour of the grounds, as well as take in all of the ‘fin facts’ posted throughout the exhibit.
