Metal Museum
With 3.2 acres of land, rotating exhibitions, a permanent collection, sculpture gardens and a smithy and foundry the Metal Museum is one of the most unique things to do in Memphis. - Metal Museum
Welcome to the Metal Museum, or as it was once known, the National Ornamental Metal Museum. This museum is the only institution in the United States devoted exclusively to the advancement of the art and craft of fine metalwork.
The museum was founded by artist-blacksmith James Wallace. It features various exhibits and collections of metalwork, as well as public metalsmith programs and onsite demonstrations. You will find a working blacksmith shop onsite, as well as a display sculpture garden. Your group will enjoy walking around and taking in all the items from the permanent collection, including such famous works as the 1981 Cross by Breduhl, Sturm Sculpture, Skyline 4 by Kosugi, Tripoid by Bush, and the entire collection on the second floor called 'Beauty in the Boundary'.
There are 20 minute Gold Tours you can take, or you can opt-in for a more in-depth field trip tour or experience choice. Take a 45-minute student tour then partake in a 45 minute metalwork demonstration. There are also additional demonstrations in forging, casting, and bladesmithing. Additional experience options include making copper bracelets, repousse copper tiles, or art tiles.
There are areas outside for group picnics, as well.
