Hoyt Arboretum

The Hoyt Arboretum is the gorgeous wooded wonderland located along the West Hills of Portland, just minutes away from downtown and Washington Park. Established in 1928, this celebrated arboretum was founded by a collection of timber industry representatives, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Portland Parks and Rec. There are over 6,000 specimens of trees and shrubs from around the world, representing over 2,000 species, 65 of them being vulnerable or endangered. This entire wooded land serves as a living laboratory, an educational and beautiful place to enjoy trees and plants that are both familiar and unexpected.

Once here your group will have the pleasure of exploring the 189 acres of trees with labels, each giving the common and scientific names as you stroll through this museum of living trees. You will be able to explore the Visitor Center, where you can learn about how the Hoyt Arboretum is dedicated to conserving endangered species and educating the community. Enjoy the beauty and serenity yourselves along the 12 miles of trails, meadows, and picnic areas, or perhaps opt to take a tour of the park. Free tours here have been offered since the 1970s, and with free transportation to and from this park with the Washington Park shuttle, there’s no reason your group won’t love this place! Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring your camera, you won’t want to miss a second of this Arboretum!
