Gulf State Park
Welcome to one of the most gorgeous places along Alabama's coast, Gulf State Park. This 6,500-acre public recreation area holds over 2 miles of beaches to explore, or as they so poetically put it, 2 miles of 'white sun-kissed sand, surging surf, seagulls, and seashells'. This means the outdoor recreation possibilities are almost endless, with opportunities to kayak, paddleboard, parasail, geocache, or just relax and stick your toes in the sand.
Aside from the beach, there is also 25 miles of trails on the Hugh S Branyon Back Country Trail you can hike, bike, or Segway, a fishing pier, a Nature Center, the Refuge Golf Course, and a campground with a swimming pool and cabin options.
The Nature Center is a must-see while at the park, this 'living museum of plants and animals native to the coast' a good source of inspiration and understanding for students looking to learn a little bit more about the Gulf Coast's more natural side. You can sign up for a guided Nature Walk, Beach Walk, or Pier Walk while here for further learning and exploration!
When you work up an appetite head to the Refuge Grill on the golf course, open year round, or if the season is right, head to Beach Concession or Kona Ice. Of course, you could always save some money and pack a picnic lunch as well! You definitely won't have trouble finding a beautiful spot to sit and enjoy your meal!
