Destin History & Fishing Museum
Welcome to the Destin History & Fishing Museum, the small museum that contains exhibits depicting the history of the town and the fishing industry in relation to it. There are displays of local aquatic life, antique fishing rigs, and other nautical artifacts within.
The Destin History & Fishing Museum first opened in 2005 as a tourist destination and key historical repository for the Destin area. It holds 5,500 square feet of exhibit space, including the outdoor Museum Historic Park. The exhibits present the history of the town plus the journey of Destin from a small fishing village to a major tourist destination.
You will see over 75 mounts of local fish, several historic photographs and artifacts, and the Mike Long Memorial Fish Wall. Learn about the science of why Destin's sand is white then head to the outdoor museum park and see such things as the historic seine 'Primrose' or mullet 'Lil Jimmy' boats. You will also see the town's original old Post Office and 'Footprints in the Sand' Memorial Walkway.
Your group may take a self-guided tour, participate in a scavenger hunt, or take a special group tour that includes a tour of the Rodeo Gallery.
