Dallas Summer Musicals
Though the name may lead you to believe this is a summer-only production facility, this is really a year-round, highly popular, award-winning Broadway and off-broadway production center, considered to be one of the best in North Texas! Dallas Summer Musical is the ‘preeminent nonprofit presenter of Broadway theater in North Texas’, the only center around here that produces, presents, and promotes excellence in live musical theater with year-round performances for a wide range of audiences. This center and it's a lively group of performers have actually won 25 Tony Awards, 9 Drama Desk Awards, and have been nominated for 4 Grammy Awards. Besides providing critical arts and educational opportunities for the community, this center also enriches the cultural landscape of Dallas and the Southwest region in general! You can learn all about the history of this theater community while here, a group founded in 1941 under the name of ‘Opera Under the Stars’. They performed in the open air of the Fair Park Bandshell at first, to beat the scorching indoor heat of a Dallas evening before air conditioning was commonplace.
Dallas Summer Musicals present the public with show choices such as their current selection, featuring The Illusionists: Live from Broadway, STOMP, Circus 1903, Bodyguard, Let it Be, and American in Paris, and the seasonal favorite, Broadway Christmas Wonderland. Right now they are also featuring Kinky Boots and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, two shows that, along with a few others, are actually presented with a curriculum-based package for student groups. You can get an overview of the history of the play, a synopsis, design details, era history, fun facts, and even pre/post-performance questions. Group tickets are always 15-20% discounted, so if this sounds interesting to your group, let us set it up and grab the deals, and educational materials, for you!
Note* This performance venue is located right next to the Cotton Bowl Stadium and Gexa Energy Pavilion, meaning there are plenty of places to choose from to eat before or after the show. We suggest heading over to the Pizza Lounge with your group for some gourmet pizza pies and sandwiches. They are open until 3 am, meaning this will even work for a post-show midnight snack!
