Dahl Arts Center
The premier western South Dakota arts center for contemporary visual arts, arts education and performing arts.
Welcome to the Dahl Arts Center, the premier western South Dakota art center for contemporary visual arts, arts education, and performing arts. This center first opened in 1974 and has since seen thousands upon thousands of happy visitors, artists, and art lovers walk through its doors!
The Dahl is a public facility gifted by Mr. and Mrs. A.E Dahl that holds a multi-purpose event center, 5 visual art galleries, an interactive children's gallery, an onsite gift shop, classrooms, and the Emerging Artist Performance Space. One of it's most popular features is the Cyclorama Mural of American History, a 180-foot oil on canvas panorama depicting 200 years of United States economic history. This amazing work of art was done by none other than Bernard P Thomas. There are always several different exhibits on display within the 5 different galleries, but they change regularly.
While here your group should opt-in for a guided tour, an opportunity to allow a professional docent lead you through the 'innovative, inspiring, thought-provoking contemporary exhibits' that are on display at the time. There are different levels of tours, including Adult, Student, and Children Tours. Student tours involve the group in interactive discussions about the art, and children tours include hands-on activities such as fun scavenger hunts. You can even add an art activity with these tours!
