Centennial Park
Before the 1996 Olympic games, Centennial Park was a run-down, decrepit plot of land unappealing to the eye and unsafe for recreation. That all changed when Atlanta was chosen for the Centennial Olympic Games and Centennial Park was renovated to become one of the most beautiful, glorious public parks in the south.
Following the games, much of the park was closed for renovation to make it a suitable recreational space for the general public. Today it boasts 21-acres of gorgeous greenery, Olympic history, and Atlanta pride, as well as a reputation for sustainability and eco-friendly practices not to mention their exciting family-friendly year-round events.
Come with your family or friends, your school or youth group, and cool off in the fabulous Fountain of Rings, lounge under shady trees with a picnic, or grab a city-famous Googie Burger located on the property.
The events of Centennial Park center around community and wellness, exactly the themes of the Olympic Games. Spring and summer usher in Fit Fridays and their weekly wellness events such as Zumba classes and workout programs, Wednesday WindDown presenting concerts every week from April through September, and the twice-weekly Music at Noon spectacular to help you wile away your lunch hour. Also, don't forget the fabulous Fourth of July spectacular, the Christmas Holiday in Lights event, or the yearly ice skating rink made every winter.
