Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine
Welcome to the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine, the very first Catholic Parish in America!
Located on Cathedral Street, this church is the seat of the Catholic Bishop of St. Augustine. It is a highly popular pilgrimage location, open to the public for touring or praying when not being used for liturgical functions. The 18th-century cathedral contains a grand interior as well as exterior, made in the renaissance revival/Spanish colonial revival architectural style. It is stately, historic, and very important to those of the Christian and Catholic faiths.
Historically speaking, this cathedral saw its birth in 1786, when the Spanish crown ordered the construction of a new parish church for St. Augustine. The cornerstone was laid in 1793 and the church has been welcoming visitors to join in prayer or tour ever since then!
