Audubon Nature Institute
The Audubon Nature Institute in New Orleans encompasses every facet of wildlife conservation and education for your students, the various attractions within including the largest Insectarium in North America, an impressively stocked aquarium, and one of the countries leading zoos for variety and entertainment.
The Insectarium is a wonderful place for children and adults to learn about the importance of insects in our world’s ecosystems. Eat a bug with Bug Appetit, be a part of the field camp, or explore the bugs of Louisiana’s bayou. Surround yourself with thousands of butterflies as you walk through an Asian garden and take part in one of the programs.
The Audubon Aquarium features a walk-through tunnel and interactive experiences with the animals. Touch the stingrays, feed the birds, and watch the sharks being fed through the 400,000-gallon tank at the Gulf of Mexico exhibit. Visit the penguins, the Amazon Rain Forest, or the rescue program as they rehabilitate injured marine animals to release back into the wild.
To see exotic animals while walking through beautiful, ornate gardens stop by the Audubon Zoo. See rare and highly endangered animals in award-winning exhibits like Jaguar Jungle and Louisiana Swamp. Pet the animals at the new Watoto Walk, built to resemble an authentic Masai tribal village from Kenya and Tanzania. Watch as the animals are fed or stop by one of the daily presentations and chats.
Each of the Audubon establishments offers daily events, tours, and programs for educational and interactive experiences for the public. Take part in the Safari After Dark tour, Zoo Wild Walks, and more. The institutions are also available to rent for private events. The Audubon Zoo is a popular wedding venue with its gorgeous gardens though it may also be reserved for private parties, birthdays, receptions, and more.
