In the upstairs bedroom of 501 Auburn Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia, Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929. Here is where Martin Luther King Jr. experienced much of his life, the good and the bad, where Martin Luther King Jr. experienced Christianity and family love but also lived in a time of segregation. Experiencing both sides of the fence had taught him tolerance and instilled in him a burning desire to do God's work on earth. Martin Luther King Jr. lived a very diligent life, as evident in the annals of history. He will forever be remembered as a great man, a leader of men, and one of the most important figures in American Civil Rights history.
Now open to the public, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site allows visitors to visit the birth home of Martin Luther King Jr. Several of the sites so important to King's early life are a part of the National Historic Site and may be visited including his birth home, the "I Have a Dream" World Peace Rose Garden, Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, and many more. Through the exhibits and displays in his honor, you’ll be able to understand him even more, his way of life and the philosophies that made him such a prominent spokesman for civil rights.
