Historically based attractions transport visitors back in time to when cotton was king while others offer a glimpse into the future. The U.S. Space & Rocket Center, home of Space Camp, offers daily tours in the Saturn V Hall, where guests can explore incredible artifacts and learn about Huntsville’s role in the Space Race that put a man on the moon. Field trips are also available, with customizable options, including science labs catered to your grade level.
Students can participate in “A Lesson in Art” at the Huntsville Museum of Art. Alabama Constitution Hall Park marks the site where Alabama became the 22nd state. Villagers dressed in period clothing make history come alive as they re-enact urban life in the 1800s and invite students to try their hand at candle-dipping, blacksmithing and more. At the Historic Huntsville Depot, students can spend the night in one of the oldest railroad structures in the nation, Bridge Street Town Centre.
Burritt on the Mountain will take visitors on a time-traveling trip through rural lifestyles from the 1800s. Other activities at Burritt invite visitors to explore the geology of the mountain setting. The Veterans Memorial Museum presents fascinating first-hand accounts of some of America’s most significant historic moments.
