Laie Mormon Temple
Sitting on a small hill just 1/2 mile from the ocean in the town of Laie, on the northeast shore of Oahu, you will find the Laie Mormon Temple, the temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints first established here in 1919.
The 42,100-square-foot temple "shines as a beacon to all who will follow its light," (church president Thomas S. Monson-2010). "It stands as a physical manifestation of all the faith, dedication and devotion over the years," today serving as a center of faith and reflection for visitors from all over the world. The land the temple sits on has served as a place of sanctuary for much longer than the temple has been around, the city of Laie once serving as a city of refuge (Puuhonua) for ancient warriors and fugitives of Hawaii.
Now this 'Taj Mahal of the Pacific' offers guests verdant grounds with several tranquil reflecting pools, plus a very nice Visitor Center onsite teaching visitors all about the church, the religion, and the town of Laie in general. Stop in and watch the film covering the settling of Laie, then step outside and grab a panoramic photo of the ocean, the views here quite spectacular.
Fun Fact: This temple is the first of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints built outside of the continental United States!
