A part of the Brush Square Museum series, the O. Henry Museum is a great quick stop for groups interested in literary history, Texas local history, or just a unique educational experience in general.
This preserved Victorian cottage was first built in the early 1890s, occupied by O. Henry, or as his full legal name goes, William Sydney Porter, and his wife and daughter from 1893-1895.
As you explore the cottage museum you will also explore Porter's life in Austin. See various exhibits covering his life, and perhaps take part in any happening educational programming or public tours. The mission of the museum is to collect, preserve, and interpret artifacts and archival materials relative to Porter for literary, educational, and historical purposes. You will see original furniture and decor, illustrations, sheet music, and manuscripts including a 'lost' story of O. Henry's. O. Henry was responsible for such great pieces of short literature as The Gift of the Magi, The Least Leaf, and The Ranson of Red Chief.
The museum is also the home of the popular Pun-Off World Championship.
