Located in the Gert Town neighborhood of New Orleans you will find the Xavier University of Lousiana, a private, co-ed liberal arts college holding the distinction of being the only historically black Roman Catholic Institution of higher learning in the United States.
Xavier University was founded by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament with the purpose of 'contributing to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing students to assume rules of leadership and service in a global society'.
You will find two main colleges within the university, the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Pharmacy, as well as the Graduate School. The most popular programs include Biology and Applied Health Science, Business, Education and Counseling, Fine Arts and Humanities, Mathematics and Physical Science, and Social and Behavioral Sciences.
