Heritage Museums & Gardens
Heritage offers up-close experiences that can’t be found anywhere else. It’s a place of joy and fun. It’s a place to make lasting memories. And it’s a place you’ll want to visit again and again. - Heritage Museums and Gardens
Welcome to Heritage Museums & Gardens, formerly the Heritage Plantation of Sandwich, the largest public garden in Southern New England. This 100-acre garden and museum space hold various landscaped and rhododendron gardens, 3 galleries housing diverse collections, and even an onsite cafe providing tasty light lunches. The entire garden area sits on the gorgeous banks of Sandwich's Shawme Pond.
In 2019 Heritage is celebrating their 50th anniversary, with several special exhibits and events planned, such as the 50 for 50 exhibit, showcasing 50 special 'treasures' that describe the gardens' first 50 years! Aside from these special anniversary-themed happenings, your group will also be able to see public art displays (Human Nature), permanent exhibits (Carnage to Classic: How Automobiles Transformed America), and even special learning areas like Hidden Hollow, the 2-acre dry kettle glacial depression turned into an active learning center and classroom.
Of course, you can't leave without exploring all the amazing gardens, 100 acres packed full of native trees, shrubs, designed gardens, exquisite flowers, and sweeping lawns, with something special blooming each and every season! Explore the North American Hydrangea Test garden, Flume Fountain Garden, Dexter Rhododendron Garden, Windmill and Sundial Gardens, and all the nature trails throughout the 65 remaining acres.
Within our peaceful confines you’ll find walking trails, outdoor discovery opportunities, gardens that invite lingering, and exhibits to expand your understanding of art and history.
