Learn all about the Mayflower Pilgrims first landing in the New World in 1620 by visiting the Pilgrim Monument, the 252-foot granite monument that is considered to be the tallest all-granite structure in the United States. Climb to the top like the millions of other visitors over the past 100 years and learn about how President Theodore Roosevelt laid the cornerstone here in 1907, and then about how President Taft officially dedicated the tower later in 1910.
After you've climbed the tower head down to the Provincetown Museum, the building first built in 1910 to 'educate the public about Provincetown's role in Pilgrim history and American history'. The museum is a charming mix of old and new, the exhibits inside highlighting such subjects as the pilgrims' arrival, the town's maritime history, early modern American theater in Provincetown, and the building of the Pilgrim Monument. You will see such things as a recreation of a 19th-century sea Captain parlor at home and at sea, a diorama of the Mayflower Compact signing, and various Native American (Wampanoag) tribe artifacts.
